Healthy Lifestyles Tips – The Biggest Request Ever for the Powers That Be

This post is about Healthy Lifestyles Tips – The Biggest Request Ever for the Powers That Be. Did it ever occur to you that a day may arrive when you have to ask from the powers that be a special request that has been troubling your mind for a long time until it pops out of your mind? This is what one woman went through until the big time question was directed at Jesus Christ. “Say that my two sons may sit, one at Your right side and one at Your left side, when You are King.” (Matthews 20 verses 20 – 28).

What an unexpected question! There is no sign of surprise on the part of Jesus Christ, but THE question receives a “zigzag” answer. The reaction from the other ten disciples is the expected one from competitors who do not like to be left behind. Some may admire the audacity of the mother who can go to such extremes in order to ensure that her children receive the best positions in the Kingdom of God.

But what would have prompted the wife of Zebedee to go to such an extent of seeking a big favour for her children? Jesus Christ does not even call her a woman of faith nor does He rebuke her for the request. For James and John’s mother, the burden has been lifted off her shoulders and was pleased with the outcome – whether positive or not.

We can now imagine what could have gone into her mind from the time her husband, Zebedee, informed her that her children were not coming back home because they had decided to follow Jesus who would train them to become Fishers of men and not fish.

Whether she received this message with joy or not, is difficult for us to know at this stage. However, when Luke writes about some women who were fascinated by the works and miracles of Jesus Christ, we cannot rule her out. These are the women who were very grateful to Jesus Christ for various reasons. She could have been very grateful to Jesus Christ to allow her children to be in the inner circle of the twelve disciples. Therefore, like Mary Magdalene and the other women, she could have begun supporting Jesus Christ’s mission wholeheartedly out of her own means.

Which normal mother would not be tempted to do that? From the moment Zebedee told her about Jesus Christ, she was keen to find out many things. Each new miracle Jesus performed drew her closer to the Kingdom of God. First there was a miracle of turning water into wine during the wedding ceremony at Cana. Her children narrated the incident with passion. Jesus had rebuked his mother, Mary, for asking Him to perform a miracle before His time. However, as disciples, James and John were delighted to see the master of ceremony beam with pride when he addressed the bridegroom, “You’ve kept the best wine up to now!”

Not long afterwards, James and John’s mother heard and sometimes witnessed many more miracles. For instance, she witnessed Jesus restoring life to a widow’s son just before his burial took place. She also witnessed Jesus feeding five thousand men besides women and children. She heard of the blind receiving sight, the dumb speaking and the deaf hearing. People who were lame walked while the lepers were cleansed. All these incidents were enough to make her fall in love with the Kingdom of God. Indeed, the words of the prophet Isaiah 61 verses 1- 2 had found fulfillment in the life of Jesus Christ. “The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon Me because He has anointed Me to proclaim the good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, and to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all those who mourn.”

Because of many signs and wonders, Zebedee’s wife had nothing better to imagine on behalf of her two sons, but to go ahead and approach Jesus Christ for the special request. Her sons should be seated at either hand of Jesus in His Kingdom. She remembered the day her children recited the Lord’s prayer to her. She was proud of them. They should be great men in the Kingdom of God. The Kingdom with no traces of hunger; even sicknesses or deaths will be unheard-of. Her children would make good ministers because their desire was to please mankind. They even regretted the day they wanted to call fire from heaven to burn the village belonging to unbelievers.

Having been captivated by Jesus’ miracles and looking forward to the coming of the Kingdom of God, Zebedee’s wife joined the women who started supporting Jesus out of their own means and followed him from village to village or from one town to the next. This is stated in Luke chapter 8 verses 1 to 2. She did this in addition to the love she had for her children. she was a woman who began a project and completed it. That is why it is not surprising that she is one of the women who looked forward to anointing Jesus’ body, but were told by angels not to look for the living among the dead. Jesus had risen from the dead just as He had said He would on the third day. According to Luke chapter 24, the mother of James and John was one of the women who went to tell the disciples that Jesus had risen from the dead. The disciples rushed to the grave and proved that the women were telling the truth.
